PROJECT DETAIL
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Seeking Nila, a week-long experiential art trial studied the river culture of the Nila River in Kerala. This unique expedition was a coming together of walking, exploring history, and creating art. The river was explored as an organism from whose existence, the people & region assume their identity. Various crafts, traditions, and communities that flourish upon the river bank were studied and their significance to the cultural ethos of the region was unpacked.
Children engaged with the architecture, art, food traditions, history, literature, culture, heritage & lore of the Nila.
Methodology:
This curriculum blended folklore, travel & art will ensure that children relate to the river ecosystem with both wonder and pride.
Through conversations across the crafting table, children built perspectives on artisans, local communities, and their skills.
By working on projects participants understand the labour & skill that goes into any creative process.
Through stories and readings, they built sensitivity for traditions & heritage that are fighting battles against displacement, development, and mechanised products.
